FarmMate Ghana Tomato Critical Intervention

The Nation's Food Basket: Ghana self-sufficient in tomatoes by July 2027.
About

What we are about

FarmMate Ltd, Ghana's designated official off-taker and technical operator for the National Vegetable Development Project, leads the Ghana Tomato Critical Intervention: a public-private partnership with the Government of Ghana to end the tomato import dependency by July 2027. Lean-season production is raised through a nationwide, enhancement-driven out-grower scheme, while the rain-fed surplus is processed into 100% tomato puree at the Legon and Pwalugu factories and released through the off-season. OXiAgro supplies the farm register, contracts, payments and lender visibility; DeepLeaf protects the yields.

How it works

The programme

Nationwide out-grower production

80+ growing areas; 40,000 acres in 2026 toward a 100,000-acre lean-season target, under an enhancement-driven scheme with private-sector partners.

Legon processing factory

10 tonnes an hour of 100% tomato puree for off-season supply.

Pwalugu factory rehabilitation

10 tonnes an hour by December 2027; with Legon, 480 tonnes a day at 24-hour operation.

Post-harvest network

20 production zones with packhouses, cold storage, farmers' markets, bulk distribution and logistics.

Irrigated land banks

20,000 acres across the White Volta, Black Volta, Lake Volta and borehole and river corridors, for year-round production.

Youth workforce and apprenticeship

A 300,000 to 500,000 applicant pipeline; 3,000 trained as extension agents and direct producers in the land banks.

Crop health with DeepLeaf

Crop checks across every cluster, protecting the yields the programme is financed on.
